Account deletion

Delete your KalaPlate account

You can delete your account and your household's data yourself, in about thirty seconds, without asking anyone. This page explains how, exactly what goes, what stays, and what to do if you can't get in.

If you can sign in

This is the fastest way, and it is the only one that takes effect the moment you press the button. There are two doors to it and they do exactly the same thing — use whichever one you are already in. You do not need a computer, and you do not need to email us.

In the KalaPlate app

Deleting your account is built into the app. It happens in the app: it does not open a browser, it does not send you to this page, and it does not ask you to write to anyone.

  1. Open Settings — the last tab along the bottom.
  2. Tap Delete account.
  3. Enter your current password, and type DELETE in capitals to confirm.
  4. Tap the delete button, and confirm once more when your phone asks. Your account and your household's data are removed straight away, and you are signed out everywhere.

On the website

  1. Open www.kalaplate.com/account and sign in. This works from any browser, on a computer or on a phone.
  2. Scroll to Delete account at the bottom of the page.
  3. Enter your current password, and type DELETE in capitals to confirm.
  4. Press the delete button. Your account and your household's data are removed straight away, and you are signed out everywhere.
Go to Account

Both routes ask for the same password and the same typed word, and both run the same deletion on our servers. Deleting from the app is not a request that we act on later, and deleting on the website does not leave anything behind in the app.

This cannot be undone. There is no grace period, no recycle bin and no restore. If you would like to keep your plans or shopping lists, save or print them before you delete — each plan has an export view.

If you pay for a subscription, cancel it too

These are two separate actions, and doing one does not do the other. It is the thing people are most likely to get caught by, so it has its own section rather than a line in a list.

Deleting your KalaPlate account does not cancel a subscription, and does not stop it renewing.

A subscription you bought inside a mobile app belongs to your Apple or Google account, not to your KalaPlate account. It is held by the store, it is billed by the store, and only you can cancel it there.

A subscription sold to you on the website is held and billed by Paddle, which is the merchant of record for that sale — the seller in its own name — and it is cancelled from the management link in the receipt Paddle emailed you. In neither case can we cancel it on your behalf: we have no access to your store or Paddle account and no ability to stop a charge we do not make. If you delete your KalaPlate account and leave the subscription running, you will go on being charged for a service you no longer have an account for.

So if you are paying and you want it to stop, cancel first, then delete:

  1. Apple: open apps.apple.com/account/subscriptions, or on the device go to Settings → your name → Subscriptions. Find KalaPlate and cancel it.
  2. Google Play: open play.google.com/store/account/subscriptions, or in the Play Store go to Payments and subscriptions → Subscriptions. Find KalaPlate and cancel it.
  3. Paddle, if you bought on the website: open the management link in the receipt Paddle emailed you when you bought, and cancel it there. The link is issued per subscription by Paddle, so there is no single address we can publish — if you cannot find the receipt, email us and we will help you get back to it.
  4. Check the seller shows the subscription as cancelled, and note the date your paid period runs to.
  5. Then delete your KalaPlate account using the steps above.

Cancelling stops the next renewal; it does not refund the period you have already paid for. A refund is the seller's to give under its own published policy — the store's for a purchase made inside an app, Paddle's for one made on the website. If you are in Australia, your rights under the Australian Consumer Law are unaffected by any of this. If you never bought a subscription, none of this applies to you and you can ignore this section.

If you can't sign in

First, try resetting your password

If you set a security question when you created your account, you can get back in yourself at www.kalaplate.com/reset-password — you will need your email address, the answer to your security question, and a new password. Once you are in, use the steps above.

If that doesn't work, ask us

We do not delete accounts from a form on a public page: a page that could delete an account without a password would be a way to delete someone else's. So the request goes to a person, who checks it is your account before doing anything.

Email us from the email address the account is registered to:

support@kalaplate.com

Put "Account deletion request" in the subject line, and tell us:

  • the email address on the account;
  • that you want the account and all its data deleted.

We will confirm we have received it, verify that the request really comes from the account holder, and then delete the account. We aim to complete a verified request within 30 days. If we cannot satisfy ourselves that the request is genuine, we will tell you why rather than acting on it — and we may not be able to proceed if you no longer have access to the registered email address.

Please don't send us your password. We will never ask for it.

What is deleted

Deleting the account removes, in one operation:

What remains, and why

We would rather tell you this plainly than let you find out. After your account is deleted, these survive it:

Beyond those, our hosting provider keeps ordinary server logs, retained according to that provider's applicable retention settings; we do not control how long it keeps them. The operational records above may be pruned periodically under our retention procedures, and we do not claim a fixed schedule for that.

The full picture is in the privacy policy.

Delete some of your data without deleting your account

You do not have to delete your account to delete your data. Almost everything KalaPlate holds about you can be removed on its own, from the ordinary controls in the app and on the website — there is no request to send, no form to fill in and nobody to ask. Deleting the whole account, described above, is the all-or-nothing option; this is the piece-by-piece one.

  • A person in your household. Settings → Who's eating → remove them. Everything recorded about that person goes with them, including their tracker entries, their allergies and their targets.
  • A meal plan. Delete it from the Plans list, and its meals and shopping list go with it.
  • A favourite or an imported recipe. Remove it from Favourites — the photo you attached to it goes too.
  • A day's tracker entries. Remove an individual entry from My day, on the phone or on the website.
  • Household settings. Food rules, exclusions, kitchen equipment, shopping regulars and store preferences can each be edited or emptied in Settings.
  • Optional fields you would rather not have recorded. Body measurements, goals, calorie and macro targets and the weekly budget can all be cleared, and the product still works without them.
  • A recipe waiting in your shared inbox. Dismiss it and it leaves your inbox.
  • Your email address. Change it in Account rather than starting a new account.

Two honest limits. A recipe you have already shared with somebody else sits in their account and only they can remove it — ask them, or write to us. And a recipe that has been added to the shared KalaPlate catalogue carries no name and no account or household identifier, so there is nothing in it to delete on your behalf; both are described under what remains above.

If you would rather do none of it: just stop using it. We send you nothing, and a free account costs you nothing to leave sitting there. If you are paying for a subscription, though, walking away does not stop it — cancel it with whoever sold it to you, as described above.
